M-i-crookedletter-crookedletter-i-crookedletter-crookedletter-humpback-humpback-i

Anyone else learn how to spell Mississippi like this??  I decided that the title was long enough without adding the other states that we visited!  Jenna and I had an opportunity to spend 2 weeks in Mississippi improving our surgical skills (and touring the south!).  Neither of us had ever been to Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas.  So what did we do?  Took a ton of photos :)
Here's a state sign map of our trip (we are missing Missouri and Alabama---the sign was blown over:(  )

We began our journey on Sunday mid-morning and the trip took us approximately 9 hours because each time we drove it poured and at one point it hailed incredibly hard!  The externship provided housing (I forgot to take pictures of the rooms) that was very nice and almost like a hotel.  On Monday, we took our first spay and neuter trip.  The picture below is of Jenna and me in front of the Mobile unit that we drove to shelters across the state of Mississippi in order to perform surgery.

We took quite a few trips over the 2 week course and were able to perform a large number of surgeries.  It was a great experience.  We also had plenty of time to explore the area and take a lot of SELFIES!!!  We tried many new restaurants (such as Stromboli's) and ice cream shops!

Stromboli's was the most hole-in-the-wall place that I have ever eaten but the food was amazing!  We also found the best custard place--Bops!  We quickly became frequent fliers there!!  Over the weekend, Jenna and I explored Birmingham, Al.  On Saturday we went to the zoo (what else are Veterinary Students supposed to do in a new place?) and took more selfies!

Wild Gorilla :)

Cuddling River Otters

Flamingos!  Pictures just for Rose!

We spent quite a while observing the flamingos and noticed that some birds were standing completely on one leg and others had their other leg hanging awkwardly.  We never really came to a conclusion as to why some birds were better one legged sleepers than others.

I don't remember what type of bird this is
but OMG it was weird looking!
World's cutest Lion :)

Elephant Selfie!
After the zoo we were lucky enough to get tickets to a Lady Antebellum concert!  Love and Theft and Scotty McCreery opened.  The night was awesome!!
The following day, Jenna and I had the opportunity to spend time with Nancy and Grant (Chris's aunt and uncle).  We had so much fun exploring Birmingham, AL and hanging out with them!  Nancy made us the best food we had in the two weeks we were in the South (Even Jenna -a picky eater- loved the Blueberry Buckle!)

We went to Vulcan Park and Museum to see all of Birmingham.  It was beautiful.  We were able to go up in the statue.  The view was amazing but I couldn't let go of the rail to take any pictures (darn you fear of heights!)

One more Selfie in the Refuge that we visited!
